For over a decade TVRM has been offering varied Dixie Land Special trips from Chattanooga to destinations in northwestern Georgia including Chickamauga, LaFayette, and Trion. Several excursions in the past have continued as far as Summerville but track conditions and lack of turning facilities have prevented a regular schedule of trips. Now trains run a 100-mile round trip from Chattanooga to Summerville and back with steam locomotive #610 leading in both directions.
The City of Summerville has invested in the "future of history" by restoring and installing a vintage turntable along the rails in Dowdy Park. Rehabilitation of the turntable, which allows a locomotive to be rotated 180 degrees, as if riding a Lazy Susan, included landscaping and other improvements within the park. Although owned by the City of Summerville and its citizens, TVRM and excursion passengers will benefit from the City’s vision to provide the turntable as a link to the past.
