TRAIN CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER – JANUARY 10-11

Train Cancellations Due to Snow – January 10-11

Safety is always our top priority at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM). With the arrival of severe weather, all trains scheduled for Friday, January 10, and daytime trains on Saturday, January 11, are canceled. While this may be disappointing for visitors, ensuring safety for passengers and staff is our primary concern.

This post will cover why trains sometimes must be canceled, what you should do if you had tickets, and how you can still enjoy the magic of railroading—even when the trains aren’t running.

Why Do We Cancel Trains for Weather?

Rail travel has historically been a reliable mode of transportation, but even the most advanced locomotives face challenges during inclement weather. Heavy rainfall and high winds can create unsafe track conditions, making it necessary to pause operations. Some common concerns include:

  • Track safety – Excessive rain can lead to flooding, erosion, or track obstructions.
  • Passenger comfort and safety – High winds and heavy precipitation make for uncomfortable and potentially hazardous travel conditions.
  • Preservation of equipment – Our vintage railcars require extra care to prevent damage from extreme weather conditions.

What Happens if You Had Tickets?

If you purchased tickets for a canceled train, don’t worry! You have options:

  1. Reschedule Your Ride – Contact our ticketing office to select a new date for your journey.
  2. Receive a Refund – If you are unable to reschedule, our team will process a full refund.
  3. Stay Updated – Weather conditions can change rapidly. If you were planning to join us for a Saturday evening ride, check our official website or social media for updates.
